Q – What is the purpose of getting PC Owners' input about their PC systems?
A - Summit Publishing is providing this opportunity to invite PC Owners to take part in creating a
large database
of PC information. This information, when consolidated into a single report, will reflect trends
concerning PC systems
and their owners' experiences, opinions and advice. New PC buyers, as well as current owners, can
benefit from knowing
which PC manufacturers are ranked the highest and why, who provides the best technical support,
which are the most popular systems,
what advice owners share most with a first-time buyer, what would most owners do differently now when
buying a new PC,
and much, much more!

Q – Is there a charge for obtaining this consolidated report?
A - Because of the expense of maintaining the web site, processing the data,
consolidating the information and publishing it in a readable format, Summit
Publishing will make available for purchase to interested buyers this “consolidated
report” of valuable and helpful information.
However, if you are a PC owner, and you take the time to become a part of building this unique and
informative database by completing the entire input form (serious input only please), then Summit
Publishing will provide you with a “FREE” copy of the consolidated report as our
way of saying “Thank You” for your time and contribution!
(You may request your FREE copy at the bottom of the
' Owner's Input Form'.)
Of course since this site is new, it may take a while for the database to become sufficiently large
to provide meaningful information concerning trends, etc. So if you participate in building this database,
please be patient about receiving your "FREE" copy of the consolidated report. We know you would prefer
meaningful information even if it may take a little longer to receive it.
Please know that we appreciate your participation and your patience.

Q – When you use the term “personal computer”, what
kind of computer do you mean?
A – At Summit Publishing, we use the term “personal computer” or PC for short, to
mean any IBM compatible ‘desktop’ computer. When we use the term PC, we are not
referring to the Apple or Macintosh type of computer. Our information deals with IBM
compatible computers only.
Our recommendations are for IBM compatible PCs in desktop, mini-desktop, mid-tower
or full-tower cases. Even though much of our information can be used to evaluate and
shop for IBM compatible laptop computers, there are still many differences that exist
between ‘desktop’ and ‘laptop’ computers. Therefore, we do not include laptops in our
Personal Shopper recommendations at this time. If there is a demand to include
information and recommendations for IBM compatible laptop computers, then we will
certainly look in to making that service available to our customers.

Q – Why are you only providing information and
recommendations for the IBM compatible computers?
A – Primarily because the marketplace (consumers and manufacturers alike) have
chosen the IBM compatible format as the format of choice for today.
There are more IBM compatible computers (as opposed to the Apple/Macintosh
alternative) manufactured and sold today by a large variety of companies. There are
many more choices available in the IBM compatibles which has created intense
competition and lower prices on the IBM compatible computers. When new peripherals
or software is released, it is usually released first for the IBM compatibles and later for
the Apple line, maybe.
The Apple/Macintosh computers are very good computers and many Mac devotees
remain ‘religiously’ faithful to their machines. However, with the advent of Windows
95, the fact is that the primary marketing advantage of the Mac (i.e. its ‘graphical user
interface’) was lost. Even though Windows 95 in its initial release, doesn’t achieve the
same standard as the Mac’s operating system, the Mac’s position as the only real ‘user
friendly’ computer on the market was lost and the dominance of the IBM compatible
computer has only increased.
By focusing on the lion’s share of the marketplace (i.e. the IBM compatibles) and by
narrowing our focus to this one area, Summit Publishing is able to provide to the largest
group of shoppers, complete and continually updated, 'Smart Shopping' information and
recommendations.
